The Kingdom of Sweden is a monarchy. Its total area is 449,964 square kilometers with population of 9.3 million people.
It joined the European Union on January 1, 1995.
Sweden has a strong economy with skilled labour force and great internal and external communications. Some of its main resources for foreign trade are timber, hydropower and iron ore. Other important for the economy industries are telecommunications, automotive industry, and pharmaceutical industry.
Some of the largest companies registered are Volvo, Ericsson, Nordea and Sandvik.
According to the World Economic Forum for 2009-2010, Sweden was ranked 4th most competitive economy in the world.
The currency is Swedish krona. The country had no plans to replace it by the euro, but once it meets the requirements, it is obliged to do so due to the Treaty of Accession.
