The Republic of Estonia is a small country of 1,340,000 people on an area of 45,228 square kilometers.

It joined the European Union on May 1, 2004.

Estonia’s economy is rapidly growing which ensures a balanced budget, low public debt, flat-rate income tax, free trade regime and constantly developing e-Services. Some of the country’s free sectors are telecommunications, textiles, chemicals, banking, fishing, shipbuilding, and more. Energy production is extremely important for the country, thus the government has been investing in renewable energy sources such as wind power in recent years.

Although Estonia has been admirably progressing during recent years, it was still sharply hit by the recession in 2008-2009.

Estonia is one of the 11 countries from the EU which still doesn’t use the euro. Its currency has been the kroon since 1928.
